Our 2nd Anniversary

My huge bouquet of flowers :)

Tuesday (28th) was our 2nd Anniversary and so to celebrate Scott & I went to Tucanos for our Anniversary dinner. (Obviously this isn't a picture of Tucanos, but I thought it was much cuter). We had some awesome gift certificates (Thanks, Andrew!) and so basically we had to pay the tip. It was great! We finished it off with a piece of raspberry cheesecake (there's always room for cheesecake :)

Then we had tickets to go see Harry Potter. It was my turn to pick the movie (last year Scott picked The Dark Knight). It was pretty good I guess. I felt a bit lost because unlike the first 5 books which I've read 2-3 times each, I've only read books 6 and 7 once each. I guess I got too busy with school and life and stuff I never picked them up to read again. But I thought the movie was pretty good and definitely comical at times.

All in all a great anniversary date, I love my hubby and I'm grateful we have many more anniversaries to look forward to!

Whats Up July

Guess there's a few things to catch up on. And seeing how this month is almost over it seems like a good time :)

First--Luke is walking all over the place! I'd say he's moved up to about 85% walking and 15% crawling. Really he only crawls when he falls down from walking. He pulls himself up and then walks, but I've seen him attempt to get up and walk from the middle of the floor--he loses his balance. It's pretty cute to see him walking around all the time.

Secondly, Luke's new face--his "surprised" look or "uh-oh" in some cases. He makes it when he hears noises like cars, dogs or other "surprising" sounds. It's quite hilarious.

He also makes the face after knocking over blocks. See how he carefully knocks them down with his pointer finger... He loves pointing.

Enough about Luke...but can you really get enough? I have just a few more things to note:

I got a haircut. Last haircut = March 31. Oi. I forgot about the before picture but it was just long and straight and boring. Now I've got layers and it's a little bit shorter. Oh. and bangs. Although I regret them like I always do.

I made 2 big loaves and 5 mini loaves of zucchini bread from ONE zucchini. It's probably a good thing I didn't actually grow zucchini this year. I just collect them from others who have too many. I did grow too many squash though. My freezer will be stuffed!

I got bored one morning and made these:

I got the idea and cut out pictures from HERE and put them in baby food jar lids I'd saved. I'm going to spray paint the lids a color, and then either laminate or just gloss paint over the paper pictures to protect them from baby slobber. But it was really easy and a cute idea!

And I'm running a 5k in a week! I'll let you know how that goes :)

Baby Signs

I have been working with Luke for about a month now trying to get him to learn some baby signs.
The best one we have working for us right now is the sign for drink. He know what it means when I sign it and gets excited and a few times he's even pointed to my mouth to indicate he wants a drink--so we're making progress I guess. I am also trying to teach him "up" and "down" and "all done" but without too much success and still plenty of whining. It will probably take some time to get him to start communicating better with us because he gets so focused on his motor skills--like walking--that he ignores everything else he already learned (like clapping) and just wants to get up and walk. (which he is doing allllll the time now. He walks everywhere and is pretty darn good too. He falls on his bum a lot but he can actually walk a long time and long distances before falling usually)

Anyway--baby signs are awesome and I want to do more!!

I read a blog called Petit Elephant and she is giving away 5 copies of a pop-up Baby Signs book--check it out here! I would love to win it!

First Crop of the Season!

We picked our very first veggie from our garden this weekend--a squash.

The tomatoes are starting to come on and we are sure to have plenty of them! We will also be getting lots of squash and beans too. I planted carrots too, but I'm not quite sure how I'm going to know when to pick them when they are underground?? We shall see. My bell pepper plants are kind of small, but one is growing a little pepper so I know they aren't dying.

WooHoo to fresh veggies!

12 Month CheckUp

Luke baby is inching back upward in weight! Luke weighs 18 lbs 2 oz which is 1.8%tile WOOHOO.

His weight chart--a list of all his weigh-ins and %tiles

His percentiles have been below 1% since around December--with his lowest at 9 months he was only .25%tile weighing in at just 15lbs. But he's put on some weight in the last 2 months and is rounding out some. Unfortunately he is 2 lbs short of being able to turn his carseat around. But he actually doesn't mind his carseat much--only when the sun gets in his eyes. At this appointment he had to get 3 shots which he did NOT like. He's got really strong leg muscles and he tightened them up so much during the shots that by the end of the day he didn't even want to stand up because his legs were sore where the shots were :(

His other stats:
Head: 18in (31.18 %tile)
Length: 28in (5.57 %tile)

Sidenote: He recently finds it funny to make us try and drink from his sippy cup. I guess he realized we are always pushing him to drink it and he thinks he can do the same thing. It's cute, except there's no way I want a drink of formula milk--bleh.

Luke's Birthday Party!

First--this is the shirt I made for Luke. Don't look too closely because it was my first attempt at applique and it was much more difficult that I thought it was going to be.

And here's Luke wearing it
yes he is holding a toothbrush :)

At Noon on Saturday we had a little family get together in celebration of Luke's Birthday! Jen (my sister) & Greg and their 3 boys came, Al came (Steph was there in spirit :) Derek and Darcy (Scott's brother and sister) also were able to come.

We just had lunch & cupcakes and were entertained watching Luke open his presents and devour his entire cake.

There were presents to open

Luke loved the tissue paper. He pulled it out and threw it up in the air.

Funny Story: One of the gift bags had a book in it from us and Luke took it out and promptly threw it behind him and went for another giftbag.

And then there was cake.

First he just took a poke at it

Then he realized it tasted pretty good and took a nice big bite

It didn't take long for him to destroy and devour

And yes. He ate it ALL.

He also thoroughly enjoyed the bath I gave him afterward

Cousin Shot: Jack holding Luke & Charlie holding Isaac

Luke got cars for a present--he tried to carry them all at once

Luke got 2 fun toys from us as well as 5 new cars & trucks to enjoy (pictures later), a cute outfit from Darcy, and some new books & DVDs from his Grandma & Grandpa Brown. He has a few more presents coming his way too.

Luke took a nice LONG nap after his party ended!

Also to note-- Hubby bought me flowers for Luke's birthday (on the 17th) because it's a bigger thing for me than it is for Luke to turn one. Thanks, Hubby for making me feel special too.

PS VIDEO OF CAKE EATING IS HERE!
