The “Confetti” Wall

 {See the rest of the room reveal here and here}
A while back I saw the cutest wall in a nursery picture…it was like confetti!!hus{Source}
I thought to myself, What a great way that is to bring some color to a wall that would otherwise be bland and blah…I had just such a wall in Sam’s room.  I couldn’t really do much to this wall, and it needed something! So I remembered the confetti wall and decided I could get away with using vinyl instead of painting all those dots!

Each and every one of those dots is a vinyl circle!
I cut them all out with my cricut and stuck them up randomly on the wall.  I used about 70-90 circles of each color.  The orange ones are about 1 3/4 inches and the yellow-gold ones are 3/4 inch big.  If you don’t have an electronic cutter, you can still cut out circles from sheets of vinyl using a circle punch.
The vinyl is great because it’s not as permanent as paint!  It peels off without damaging the wall or existing paint, making it easy to change or take off later!

It’s such a happy wall and I love looking at it as I rock Sam to sleep each day!  It definitely beats my other plan which was to paint the trim around the doors orange…not sure my hubby would have gone for that idea!

Christmas Inspiration Sheet

I have 2 sheets from last year:
[click picture to enlarge]
And this year's sheet:

I was planning on doing a lot more than I will end up doing. Mostly because my hobbies budget is already shot and I haven't been selling to many of these nor anything here lately. sad.

But I am so excited for Christmas and I am not even bothered by early Christmas music this year. In fact I was totally listening to it on Pandora yesterday. so there.

It's probably got to do with the underlying fact that I can't wait for this year to be o.v.e.r already so I can start a new one.

Anyway, enjoy the Inspiration and Happy Crafting!!

Autumn Inspiration Sheet

Since many of you liked my Halloween/October Inspiration Sheet, I think I may continue to put them up here for you to see.

This is my Autumn Inspiration Sheet:
As you know from yesterday's post, I have already made sweater pumpkins and the HARVEST Subway art. I am going to make some pillows for my couch out of sweaters and fabric in Fall colors. I already did my porch, I just don't think I'll do a whole lot more. Honestly, I am ready for Christmas. Usually I like to give Thanksgiving it's proper attention, but this year I'm just ready to go ahead and move on with it and get on to Christmas already! (minus the snow, I am not really ready for that yet! EEK!)

I may or may not have the links/tutorials to the picture (sometimes I just save the picture knowing I can figure out how to do it myself later). But if you want to get the link to something just leave a comment and I'll see if I can find it for you.

Happy October!!

We are totally out of milk.
and eggs.
and bread.
and cheese.

I've been waiting for today to come so the grocery budget would renew and I could go grocery shopping. (by the way, we've been using mint.com for over 2 years now and love it)

I've been working hard all week on Halloween projects, but I'm only half way done with a lot of them. I should be finishing up 2 of them today and I can post up the pictures this weekend.
Yesterday I dragged Scott & Luke with me to a little park near some woods in Saratoga Springs. Mission=collect branches. Since we dont' have any trees of our own (and if we did they would be babies) we had to drive to go get some elsewhere. It was fun though. Like I said there was a park, so Scott played with Luke on the slides while I collected dead branches to my hearts content. There was even a little feral cat there watching me.

OOOO you are so going to love all my projects! Here is my "inspiration sheet" that I used as I planned on what I wanted to do. I copy some, alter others...
I always collect pictures/tutorials of ideas for the holidays and then make a picture sheet like this to carry to the store for supplies & more ideas as I shop the decor and stuff. I'll tell you that I am still collecting pictures and I have so many more ideas that didn't fit on just one sheet, too!

It's been fun! I bet you are aching to know what I've been up to ;)

Eat Your Frogs

yum.

just kidding.

I read this article on Simple Mom a while back about eating frogs--not literally. A "frog" is something you don't like to do around the house or something you always put off doing. For me some of those things include washing the pots and pans, cleaning the bathrooms or doing laundry or updating Mint (our budgeting website).
The basic idea is that if you do the worst thing on your plate first thing in the morning, the rest of the day is a cake walk. So if your least-favorite chore is the laundry, and it’s one of the items on your to-do list today, then tackle it first. That way, you can spend the rest of your day knowing you’ve done the most irritating task.
So she outlines what to do each day to get organized and determine what your frog for the day is:

1. First, outline your tasks for the day.
2. Narrow down your list to ten items.
3. Out of those ten things, pick three most important tasks.
4. Out of those three things, pick the worst one and make it your frog (do it first)
5. Out of your list of ten, pick your favorite or easiest item and make it your reward for eating your frogs.

I've been doing this for the last few months, and it's been AWeSOME. I'll be honest I don't always actually go through all the steps and write it all down, but I'll look around or think about what needs to get done, and then do it in order of what I least like to do to the things I don't mind doing. Then, when I'm all done with my tasks, I reward myself my scrapbooking on the computer or watching a TV show.

I've felt more productive because I'm getting most of my housework done in the morning before lunch (before 10 on a really good day), I have plenty of time to shower and enjoy my day with Luke. I have the whole afternoon while Luke is napping to work on hobbies because I've finished all my chores in the morning while he was happily playing or watching Sesame Street (he loves Elmo these days--"Melmo" as he calls it).

Try it. Eat a frog first thing in the morning and the rest will follow. And even if you only get that ONE thing done--it's totally worth it because it's done and you no longer have to worry about it.

Love This: 7 Was to Find Motivation at Home

This article struck me particularly because I just realized I've been done with school for 6 1/2 months and I haven't really done much with my days at home even when I really do have plenty of time to do the things I need to do and want to do. This article was very helpful.

Found here.
7 Ways to Find Motivation at Home

June 15, 2009

I‘ve got several emails with a “to be answered in a post” tag that all ask this question–“How do I find the motivation to work at home when I just don’t feel like it?”

I’m responding to this question today because it’s a good one to address in my own life. It’s getting hot, life isn’t quite as hectic as last month, and there’s not much on the calendar for the next few weeks. It’s easy to get lazy at home.

Here are a few ideas to fight off the apathy, the lack of interest, or the plain ol’ annoyance at the cyclical nature of your job as home manager.

1. Remember that it’s a job.

When someone asks where you work, don’t answer, “I don’t work; I stay at home.” Instead, answer, “I work at home.” When you manage your home, plan the meals, handle the finances, juggle the calendar, and make sure that family members enter the world relatively groomed and sanitized, you work a lot. Think of yourself as the COO of the home. If your home was Home, Inc., how would you rate your performance in a quarterly review?

2. Start your day with a realistic morning routine.

Seasons in life call for flexibility, change, and not doing what you want all the time — but do your best to write down a weekday morning routine for starting your day. Whether it be working out, reading your Bible and journaling, going on a walk, or simply showering and getting dressed before the family wakes up, do what you can to prepare yourself for a day of work.

2. Eat your frog.

After your morning routine, attack that one thing you dread the most. Is it laundry? Start a load of wash right away, and make it your goal to get clean clothes in their closets by lunchtime. Do you need to pay the bills but can’t stand the work involved? Jump on it right away — the weight will be off your shoulders for the rest of the day once they’re paid.

3. Find inspiration…

Spend a few minutes reading blogs that encourage you in your job as home manager. Flip through some home magazines you enjoy to motivate you to clean up the clutter. Set a timer as you do this, so that you know when it’s time to actually put your found inspiration to work.

4. …But, don’t let those blogs and magazines discourage you.

It’s easy to throw in the towel before you even start your work when you read about other moms that seem to do everything, or look at glossy pages with gorgeous, stain-free furniture. If you’re a perfectionist, like me, you might especially be prone to not doing anything at all if you think you can’t do it expertly. If this is you, make a point to not open your laptop or a magazine until a certain chunk of your checklist is crossed off.

5. Leave the house.

Are you frozen with discouragement as you trip over the carpeting of Lego and stare at the pile of lunch dishes? Are your kids restless with energy, full of wiggles needing release? Get a change of scenery. Go to the park. Go on a walk. Go to a friend’s house. Sometimes fresh air will do all of you a world of good.

6. Evaluate what you’re about.

Perhaps you feel lazy about starting your work because you feel like you have so much to do, with no sign of completion. Are you trying to do too much? Is the goal of your job to have a sparkling house, spotless kids, and a three-course meal every evening? Are you losing the love of your game? Maybe it’s time to sit down and create a family mission statement. Decide who you are as a family. Let that be your guide for what you prioritize during your working hours.

7. End your work day.

It’s hard to see the end in sight, and there are sleepless nights peppered in our work weeks because of sick kiddos, nursing infants, or willful toddlers. But do what you can to end your work at a reasonable hour in order to spend time with your spouse, recharge your batteries with some adult (or alone) time, and get adequate rest for tomorrow.

Everyone has valleys in life, when your spark has waned a bit, and you’ve forgotten what it’s like to love your calling. Your love is probably still there, somewhere. Do what you can to find it, instead of running your batteries on obligation. Everyone in your family will thank you.
