Wicked…was wicked awesome!

DSC_7534

My super wonderful hubby came up with the perfect present for my birthday this year…tickets to see Wicked!!  Now I know what all the hype is about! We got to go see it last week and I was very impressed!  I worried about getting bored or not liking it since we spent so much money on it—I tend to get bored half way through a play.  But I never got bored and I loved all of it! I wasn’t expecting it to be funny, so that was a pleasant surprise and made it a lot better for me.  And I dying in love over some of the costumes that the chorus was wearing!  loved it.  I decided I need more theater in my life! What can we go see next???

The Zoo.

We have been wanting to take Luke to the zoo all summer, but we were waiting for it to slow down and cool off. It was a perfect weekend to go so we went!

We got there about 9:30 (a half hour after opening) and it wasn't too crowded and it was nice and cool outside.

Luke's favorite was the Elephants of course. before dinosaurs elephants were his favorite--he still loves them.

We headed there first and they were eating breakfast
The rhinos lived near the elephants

All the monkeys were eating breakfast too. It was fun to watch them crawl around and shove food in their mouths. These were the black howler monkeys and one of them was showing off--howling and swinging around the bars.
I don't think the sound recorded in this video--it's a shame too because he sure was howling!

We liked watching the big gorilla- he was eating something and it was fun to watch.

This chimp was obviously the child of the bunch. He was playing with these pipes trying to put them together and then he started playing peek-a-boo with this sheet.

The Giraffes are always fun to see

The Bean.

Wednesday we went to the Monte L Bean museum for my nephews birthday. Luke loved seeing all the animals, especially the huge elephant. He kept running back to it. (He's way into elephants & dinosaurs right now).

He also found this little crockadillian under the bench. It was funny.
My sister scheduled a little reptile show for all the kids and they brought out a turtle, a lizard and a snake. All the kids loved that.

THe best part of the museum...it's totally free. We love free.

Anniversary Date

Scott & I celebrated 3 years on Wednesday! It's crazy to think how much we've done in just 3 years and how much more we will do and accomplish in the next 3 years to come!

For our date, we were able to leave Luke at home with Scott's brother, Derek. Scott and I left to go to Olive Garden. Since it was a Wednesday it wasn't that busy at all. We really like Olive Garden and we still had a gift card so it was FREE! We even got dessert ;) It was so nice to just sit there and enjoy my food without worrying about how much Luke wasn't eating (the kid is seriously picky about eating these days).

We headed off to the movie theater after that and saw Inception--which everyone was saying was soooo gooood. We rarely get to see a movie in the theater anymore. We actually got there really early (7:15) because the time had changed from 7:30 to 8:00 or my info was wrong from the website I'd looked at. We played the dot game while we waited for the previews to start. The theater wasn't that full either (love weekday night dates!). THe movie was great--definitely worth spending $17 on.

Overall, simple, but perfect. I love just spending time with my hubby, and I'm looking forward to the adventures we have coming in the next few years.

Tracy Aviary

Saturday we decided to head up to SLC to the Tracy Aviary.

Luke was SO excited when he saw the birds! He was having a blast!

Pelicans are HUGE. This picture doesn't do them justice.
We followed this mother duck and her NINE ducklings to the bridge where the mother duck encouraged her ducklings to jump down into the river to join her. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen as each little duckling built up some courage and then hopped in!
The Bald Eagle

This little green bird is from Brazil, Scott served his mission there and he recognized it because he saw them everywhere down there.
Some parts Luke could get really really close to some of the birds

He loved the ducks and kepts saying "Duckies!"
I love Flamingos

The peacocks wandered around freely
Luke ran away when we tried to get him closer for a picture

When we were walking out one of the peacocks was showing off!

It's a great little place for a short Saturday excursion. Luke was free (under 3 is free) and it was fun to get out of the house for the morning! Scott and I decided we're going to get out and go somewhere new and fun more often--we have so much to see and we've lived in UT for 5+ years now! Anyway, here's a couple videos of Luke saying "birds! Birds!"

"Whoa, birds!...." " There and there and there"

Camping

Labor Day Weekend was GREAT.

Scott wondered why we celebrate Labor day, and I couldn't quite tell him, so I looked it up...

The holiday originated in 1882 as a result of the labor movement and was intended to be a day of rest to recognize the efforts of the average working man.

In case you wanted to know, too.

ANYWAY---
We went CAMPING.
We have been wanting to go so we planned to go Sunday afternoon until Monday mid-day.
We drove down to Deer Creek Reservoir because that's where we booked a site (LOTS of people go camping on Labor Day weekend! LOTS.) We had a perfect view of the lake as you can see from the picture above.

he didn't stay in here very long.

Luke most definitely enjoyed it.

We made foil dinners, had s'mores later and played card games until bed and then made eggs, bacon and hash browns in the morning.

He loved playing in the tent

rubbing dirt on his eye as we try to take a picture.

Al & Steph

We had a little path leading down to the lake--which was beautiful

Steph went fishing--the fish were picky though and they didn't bite.

The Dirt.
It was inevitable that he'd get dirty, so we just let him go at it.
He got right down in it on his tummy at one point.

He was pretty proud of his dirt

...and he kept going...headstands and everything.

He also found a stick he liked to play with
