I still have some catch up to do from the last few weeks, but I know everyone wants to see my pictures from Luke's birthday party so here they are!
Luke is way into Sesame Street (SS) these days. He knows all the characters and watches it at least once a day sometimes twice. So I was happy to do a Sesame Street party for him despite the amount of work it took!
Luke woke up pretty happy on Saturday morning, I sang Happy Birthday to him and he loved it. He also loved all the decorations we put up the night before and pointed to all the SS characters.
Right after breakfast we let him open his present from his G & G brown. He had a fun time ripping off the paper bits at a time. When Scott pulled it out the box he shouted "car" and we put it together quickly for him to push around which he did for a good 20 minutes. It's a bubble mower so we put the bubbles in it and took it outside. He would stop and look at the bubbles when they would come out--he was fascinated.
The party didn't start until 11:30, we spent the morning cleaning up and working on Luke's cake! Scott helped a lot actually--he did all the red stars on the cake. I was impressed. Working on this cake made me realize I needed more than one frosting bag to decorate a cake. Oi. We used a wilton Elmo cake pan for the shape. I borrowed it from a friend---chances are you can find a neighbor or friend who has one!
We had coloring pages for the kids to color when they came in. I just googled "Sesame Street Birthday coloring pages" and found a bunch free online
I made this banner. I plan on laminating it and using it for future parties. All the characters I'm going to laminate and put in a quiet book or something for Luke.Scott also made the cookie monster box. This was a game they could play--I made felt cookies and the kids toss them in to cookies mouth--feeding cookie monster.
The cookies are two felt circles hot glued together--leave and opening and fill with rice--then glue it shut. Then hot glue black felt pieces on for the chocolate chips!
We also had them play pin the nose on the Elmo--I wish I'd had a chance to get a picture of them actually doing it. We blindfolded the older kids but just let the little ones--Luke and Isaac--just stick the nose on.I made all the SS characters using SS Cricut cartridges. It made it a lot easier, but it was still tricky and time consuming.
So funny and somewhat not so funny story about the pizza. We ordered it at 11:30 and it was only supposed to take 30 minutes--arriving at just the right time for the party. However. An hour later, upon calling to find out what was up, we find that the delivery guy got in a car accident! They sent another guy to go retrieve our pizzas and bring them to our house, but they didn't get here until 1:15 (the party was supposed to be over at 1). Then we opened up the boxes and found that our pizzas didn't do to well in the accident themselves! They were all squished to the side! (and they were lukewarm, not hot like they should have been) After mostly everyone left, Scott called the manager and he gave us FIVE free future pizzas. sweeeet.
I love how all the kids crowd around while the presents are opened.
My brother Al, his wife Stephanie, and my younger brother Steve were able to come up during their lunch break at the bike shop. (They all work at Taylor's Bike Shop in Provo)
Chilling on the stairs with Uncle Derek
Birthday Cake Pictures! We have a really cute video of Luke dancing while everyone sings Happy Birthday to him. I'll have to work on getting that up this week.
The End!

That is seriously the cutest birthday party ever! You get majoy "mom" points for that! Sorry about the pizza...actually it turned out pretty good...more pizza!
ReplyDeleteWow Katie! The cake looks amazing-and I love all of the Cricut stuff. You are super mom!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I'm so sad I couldn't come though. Tell Scott to give me some more advance notice next time so I can take any tests early and make it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the cake! Luke is so spoiled to have a mommy (and daddy) like you :)
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteLuke is so blessed to have the parents he has and we are all so blessed to have Luke! He is one very special boy, we love him so, and I just wished so much we could have been there. With our upcoming trip out there we have many things planned but one of the most important and what Grandma and I look most forward to, is seeing Luke and the rest of the family. We miss you guys!!
I was trying to figure out what the heck I was doing in the 'kids coloring pictures' photo... I WAS TRYING TO GUESS HOW MANY COOKIES WHERE IN THE JAR! I was taking it very seriously.
ReplyDeleteLukey Lou had so much fun. It was a great party, car-accident-pizza and all!!!

Awesome party, Kd! Those Cricut characters are adorable; you did a great job on them and just everything. I am very impressed that Scott did all those stars on the cake--that's not as easy as one would think. Just wish we could have been there to share in the fun--and the squished pizza!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! but don't get me started on assembling those SS characters from the cricut...especially big bird and his stupid leg stripes or bert and ernie's shirts....i have recent experience with the ss cricut cartridge, if you couldn't tell haha. don't get me wrong, i LOVE that thing, but yeah, seriously tedious. so props to you for being a GREAT mom haha!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! My 2 year old is really enjoying looking at this post with me and shrieking in delight at all the Sesame Street characters. :-)
ReplyDeleteIm glad i came across your blog. I love your party ideas! I was planning in the guessing game with the cookie jar, and pin the cookie on the cookie monster, but I think the cookie toss is too cute. Can I ask where you found the large cookie monster cut out for the box? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering the same as Yasmine. I'd love to make that box this weekend.

DeleteSo adorable! I'm about to have my daughter's second birthday and we are also doing a Sesame Street theme. I love the cookie monster cookie toss... May I ask how you make the "cookies"? I read they were made of felt, but did they have anything in the middle for weight?

ReplyDeleteThe cookies are make with 2 brown felt circles, and little black felt chocolate chips that I hot glued on. I left a little spot open when I glued the circles together and filled them with rice (or beans or any other small pellets would work) Then I glued the opening together!
