Fail.

It's been this kind of week for me in projectland:
{upside down, broken glass, wonky vinyl}

Instead of showing you my new cute menu board with my ridiculously awesome fabric, I have to show you a mess of a project where everything that could have gone wrong ---went wrong.
oh so wrong.

First, though you can't see it in the picture, the paint for the frame isn't really the right color. I painted it Ivory instead of white. It should be white. AND it's too cold to spraypaint. impatience made me do it anyway, so the frame isn't painted vary nice either.

I glued down the fabric to the backing without checking to make sure wrinkles weren't there. Sure enough there was a fold line right down the side of the fabric.

Next mistake. I assumed it was an 11x14" frame, though since I got it at DI, it wasn't--more like 10x12 or something like that {still too lazy to actually measure, esp now that it's broken.} I designed all my vinyl in Sure-Cuts-a-Lot on the computer assuming that it was for an 11x14 frame. So my letters were too big and I was either going to squish it in or re-cut all my vinyl. As you can see I decided to try the squishing approach. What you don't see is that when I was taking off the vinyl from the mat, I did it too quickly and the mat was extra sticky, I ended up ripping the words Thurs & Sat in half= would have had to re-cut them anyway!!

Not only that, but as I was putting on the vinyl, I noticed it was up-side-down! So i had to take it out and turn it around...
that's when the glass broke.

Now I have to start over completely!

Uhhhhhgggggg. &%!*&#$#!! {insert very loud scream here!!}

Needless to say we will NOT be making another Menu board for a while.

Happy Friday!

Don't you LOVE these flowers in this vase?! Screams Spring-y things to me!
This is one of my new favorite blogs, by the way. I love everything they are doing with their new home as they make it their own!

I also love Fridays!
Maybe because Hubby usually comes home early, and then I get to have him home for 2 whole days!

I did a blog revamp. Did you notice? Probably not if you read this in Google. I still have to organize/revamp my labels and go through my entire blog to organize posts and such, but it looks a lot cleaner. I actually really like Blogger's new Template Designer! It's so much nicer to use than to try and do all the HTML & CSS yourself--which is what I originally had to do to make my blog 3 columns! I decided to get rid of the 3 columns for now, though.

I just realized that the acronym for Smile Like You Mean It is SLYMI=SLIMY!! I promise I'm not secretly slimy.

I'm such a nerd.

I never posted any pictures from the beginning of this month when we watched my sister's little dog, Tina. Luke loved it--mostly. We also went to Vegas 2 weekends ago--lots of pictures from that too. Those are probably good weekend posts, huh. Maybe I'll get right on that.

Today I'm kinda busy busy, though.
~Lunch with Sis
~Rendezvous with Sis' Friend who's buying all these lovelies:
~Visit Sweetheart Bridal, in Provo, owned now by my BF, Shelley.
~Figure out what movie to watch tonight with the Hubby. We like spending our Friday nights with a good movie, and snuggling on the couch :)

Since today is so busy I better get outta here and get to work!
Happy Weekend, Friends!!

a little red, a little white, a little blue

{1.5"; bows appear bigger than they are}

My sister's friend asked me to make her daughters some hair bows to match their school uniforms.

Red, white & navy were the colors to play with this time.

Here's what I've made!

{the bow in the back is nearly 6 inches! It's awesome!
Haven't decided if it will be a headband or just a big clip-on bow}

Easy Bookshelf Update

Still working on Luke's new room.

I was trying to think of a way I could bump up the cute-ness factor on his boring black bookshelves without painting them.

Enter in ...wrapping paper!

I had a roll of this pretty fun wrapping paper and thought it would make a great background.

I took out the shelves and laid the bookshelf down on the floor. Then I hot-glued the paper (cut to size first) down around the edges. Not a permanent fix, but it will work until I either replace the bookshelf with something else or paint it for real.

the desk.

Oh dear.
This is our current set-up.
What. A. Mess.

I'm looking to streamline this entire area, paint the wall a fun and dramatic color, and put up some shelving.

This is where I spend a lot of my time working and crafting, so I'm also thinking about some pendent lighting to add above the space. Crafting and working on art projects requires a lot of light, and the lighting in this entire area isn't ideal--especially at night. Even during the day the shadows make it hard to see true colors in the projects I'm working on. Pendent or track lighting above the desk might help fix that.

Here's some pictures of what I'm thinking for the space:

So. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to make it work on our wall that is 117.5 inches long and a little less than 3 feet deep. For now I guess I'll just keep dreaming about clean desks...

This Little Piggy

This weekend, while I was making this mobile, Luke was upstairs being naughty but very cute.

I have had this piggy post-it notepad in the desk drawer by the computer.

Luke recently started opening drawers and exploring the drawers content.  He loves animals, so naturally, he fell in love with this paper!

What he did with it was even better!

He took them off the pad one by one and lined them up!!

I LOVE this!!

How could I be mad when he made an army line of piggy post-its?!
